Fetal Development Update.

If you could see Margaritas the Fetus this week you'd see that her fingers and toes are emerging, her eyelids practically cover her eyes and her embryonic tail is just about gone. Of course, it's still too early to tell whether we're having a boy or a girl because the telltale parts aren't visible yet, but go ahead and play the guessing game. I am guessing - girl.

Doctor and maternity clothes update

I realize that I never mentioned how my search for a doctor went, or how we did at the maternity clothing sale.

First, the sale. We bought a couple of outfits - 50% off. Woohoo!!! So I got out of there only dropping 34 Euros (around $55).

The search for a doctor hasn't been as productive. I want to see our baby, but I also want to be able to understand the doctor so I have been trying to find one that speaks English. The first problem is that I can't find any doctor willing to take on a new patient, especially one who will only be here for another month. Do you remember in a previous post how I mentioned that everyone in France is pregnant? Well there is now apparently a doctor shortage.

I did manage to make an appointment for July 18th, with a French doctor. I think I was told to tell Alex that she should drink a lot of water before the appointment so I am hoping for an ultrasound. I am still trying to find another doctor who can see us sooner than that though.

I am sure you will be able to read about it in future posts.

Nauseous at the Park

Canada is so damn safe. Too safe if you ask me. It is as though the CSA needs to justify their existence so they spend all their time finding ways kids hurt themselves and how to protect them. Parks are an excellent example of this. When I was a child there was a toy at the park that was round. Kids would hold on for dear life and the older children would spin it faster and faster until one or more of the weaker children would be flung across the yard. That was funny, and being super tall and super skinny, I was usually the one being flung.
Here in France, we still have that toy, or something like it. Now it is much smoother, it has nothing to hold onto, is higher off the ground and is angled so children can actually be propelled into the air or driven into the ground. It's great!!!
Ethan loves this park and I take him there often. In fact, yesterday the city was holding a big childrens festival there. Ethan loves another toy that spins and he gets himself so dizzy spinning around and around. Well yesterday he wanted to teach daddy how to do it, so I did. I would spin around for a couple of seconds and he would correct my style and make me do it again. Again and again. After five minutes I was so dizzy and nauseous. Yes, you heard me...nauseous. Oh my God. This is what Alex feels like every day of her pregnancy. I can relate now. Being pregnant and having morning sickness is like spending 5 minutes on a spinning childrens toy, in the sun, when you haven't eaten.
I used to say that I would love to be able to carry a child, that women are blessed with this gift. Not anymore. I felt like shit for hours yesterday and I appreciate what my wife endures everyday for our family.
I hope Margaritas the Fetus appreciates it when she is older.

They are everywhere...

It is kind of like buying a new car. You don't see many VW Jetta's on the road until you get your keys from the dealer. The minute you pull off the lot it seems that the city is full of them. Jetta's everywhere. Well it is the same with pregnant women.

I am afraid that the impending baby boom that I am witnessing will cause shortages of diapers and formula at the stores. New moms will be fighting to secure the last remaining soother on the shelf. I am not sure that retailers are prepared. They may have to hire extra security. Forget the shortage of oil and gas. New moms can be violent for their children.

I just hope this crisis will not be as exaggerated in Canada. Can you imagine the cost of maternity pants after this crisis hits? Speaking of that, I am going shopping in four hours. Wish me luck.

Oh oh. Time to shop again.

Well my wife is beginning to change again. We have to eat Chinese food more often than usual and the morning sickness has returned. Another change that is beginning will result in my having to visit a department store tomorrow. There is a sale on maternity wear at LaHalle near us so I have to be prepared to spend some dough. If you remember during our first pregnancy I was astounded by how much maternity wear costs. I hope I do not have to relive that horror again.

Also, I have decided for the time being, that I will name this fetus Margaritas. Margaritas the Fetus is now 7 weeks old and apparently we should be able to hear her heartbeat at the ultrasound, if we can ever communicate with a doctor here.

Wish us luck. That is my goal tomorrow. To find a good, well-rounded doctor. A doctor who can do an ultrasound for my wife and a doctor who can revive me when I see the bill for new clothing at the maternity sale. Sale my ass. I'm gonna get screwed. Well apparently, I'm not the first.

See you soon.

Good night Margaritas.

Here we grow again...

It's unofficial, so if anyone actually reads this then keep it to yourself until after we arrive in Canada. We took the test today and passed, we think. The pregnancy test here says Enceinte so we assume that is good. The only other option is Pas Enceite and pas means not. So as long as Enceinte means pregnant then we are all good.

Thanks to the internet and the 500,000 pregnancy calendars available, we have predicted that we are due around February 5th, 2009. Our first trimester ends on July 28th and we arrive back in Canada on the 3rd of August.

For our first pregnancy I gave the fetus the nickname Cletus. I need a new name so if you have any ideas please post them here. I am looking for something female this time.

So, I am back. Hopefully I can keep everyone updated often.

Hello little new life. Your big brother is waiting for you.
